One can certainly oppose Zionism without being anti-Semitic, but let’s acknowledge that some people indeed use “Zionists” as a code word. Also, please recognize that Zionism does not equal the right-wing Israeli government currently in power. Many Israelis protesting the war, including some soldiers risking jail for refusing to fight in it, consider themselves Zionists, as do many Jewish Americans opposing U.S. support for Netanyahu. No matter how one feels about Zionism overall, please recognize that—as with most nationalist movements—there is a great diversity of perspectives. Rather than engage in ideological battles on the nature of Zionism or arguments regarding one-state vs. two-states, let’s focus on building broad coalitions to stop U.S. support for war crimes.
