But on this particular day, they caught almost three times as much. The co-op, part of a Samaritans Purse project to help improve family incomes in marginalized areas, first sells at a reduced price to their own community. Then when they have large catches, they call in vendors who buy in quantity to take to the big cities. On this one day, each member of the co-op made almost 20% of the monthly minimum wage. This fishing project involves 48 families and provides boats, fishing equipment, training, and help obtaining legal status for the co-ops.
