Since the mid-sixties Ive heard progressive thinking church leaders comment on how the today church MUST be more attentive to fellowshiping our communities and their needs. I think it was Robert Shelton who I first recall focusing on that message, and that only because he was our pulpit minister at the time. During that period I remember a Missions youth rally at Campbell focusing on how our community churches might better prepare our youth to serve not only those missions abroad, but more, or at least equally, serve the missions to the unchurched at home. I specifically remember how funny it seemed to me that we would focus so much attention on those foreign fields when the fertile soil closest to us was right next door. Make no mistake, I actively support the Sid Allens and Charles and Darlene Coulstons of our world (just two out of thousands, right?). But if we cant find a way to talk to the person next to us in line at the grocery store then the work in the streets if Nairobi seems fruitless. Just a thought. Walk with Him today.
