One could have or should have seen this coming. You cant just offer as a solution dumping upwards of ten thousand community cats back into neighborhoods and not face a community backlash from property owners and taxpayers expected to add these unowned cats to their neighborhoods. With MDAS own involvement in allowing cats to end up with hoarders like Gigis rescue and even Bernies own admission on the huge number of ferals he keeps in his home this nightmare only gets worse until real solutions are implemented. URGENT: County Commissioners to discuss # of cats per household - All cat lovers must attend Next WEDNESDAY, 11/12 , at 9:30 am there is a meeting of the Animal Services & Public Safety Committee of the Board of County Commissioners. On the agenda (Item 1F1) is a discussion of the number of cats that can be housed in residential homes. While we have not been able to get additional details regarding the reason for this discussion, we are very concerned about the possibility of potential county-wide limits. Any animal hoarding cases in our community can be addressed using existing public health and animal cruelty laws. Imposing a legal limit on the number of cats could have disastrous consequences. We urge everyone to attend this meeting to express our support for the Countys progress towards becoming No Kill, and to oppose any per household limit as this would endanger the lives of thousands, if not tens of thousands, of cats. If you can attend, please RSVP to cindydiver@aol Please be polite & professional in all your communication -- we do not know the cause or intent of this discussion, but cannot risk that it might involve setting any limits on the number of cats. Thank you!
