One day I really wanted to go for a swim in the lake. It was hot - TopicsExpress

One day I really wanted to go for a swim in the lake. It was hot and sunny, so I threw on my bathing suit and flip flops and ran next door to my best friend, Colleens house. She had to babysit her little brother and sister and couldnt come. I walked to the beach anyway. The cold water took my breath away as I dove below the surface. I turned on my back and glided, kicking my feet, until my breath slowed to normal. I closed my eyes and let the sun shine down. It warmed my face and I noticed a strange sensation. The warmth was spreading down across my chest, seeping into my heart...now down through my arms, over my stomach and legs, all the way to the tips of my toes. The water was no longer cold, but deliciously warm and softer, smoother. It was holding me up. I didnt have to kick anymore. I could feel myself gliding effortlessly. What was happening? I opened my eyes and to my surprise, the sun was no longer above me. Instead a brilliant blue star shone down. The sky was dark, but warm. There were millions of brilliant stars twinkling and shining all around me. The warm smooth water started to carry me faster now. I was picking up speed, moving faster and faster, gliding over rolling hills and valleys of water. I felt completely safe and completely exhilarated at the same time. I reached out, feeling the water around me and noticed a beautiful emerald green colour. Then sapphire blue, then a deep purple, fuschia and indigo. The water was shifting and changing into the most exquisite colours all around me. I heard a joyful laugh and looked up to the sky. There was an explosion of orange and yellow as one of the stars burst brilliantly above me. The next thing I knew, the stars seemed to be bursting and laughing all around me, the brilliant colours melting into the beautiful colours of the water. I couldnt help laughing myself, joining with the wonderful sounds around me. I had never felt so happy and free. This went on for hours. Or maybe just minutes. I dont know. I floated and watched and laughed. Feeling peaceful, I closed my eyes. As I did, I gasped with the shock, feeling the water suddenly cold again. My eyes flew open and it was all gone. The sun shone down and I had to kick to stay afloat. I swam to the rocky shore, threw on my flip-flops and ran home as fast as I could. My brother was in the kitchen and I told him all about it, out of breath. He just stared at me. Whatever, you little weirdo. I ran and told my Mom who was doing laundry. Sounds wonderful honey. But she didnt stop sorting clothes and I could tell she didnt believe me. That night, cuddled in our sleeping bags, in a tent in Colleens back yard, we marveled at the story together. She asked a lot of questions and got me to tell it over and over until we fell asleep. As we grew up together, whenever we were bored or one of us was sad, we would talk about my incredible adventure and we would feel happy again. I still think about it, to this day.
