One day, I stood in the halls with a lawyer. Frustrated, I said, it is a lie. A fabrication. I cant produce evidence on something that did not happen. I was dumbfounded and speechless when the lawyer replied. Every single person in the courtroom lies. And then as if frustrated I wouldnt go along with it, as if there was a game of how to use lies and confusion to win a case, she looked me hard in the eyes. Everyone lies. And she meant it. The lawyers, the judges, the mediators, the therapists, the police, and in some cases, both parties. Everyone in the courthouse knows this, yet nothing is ever changed with the agreement every one signs under the penalty of perjury.
