One day and one night for the resident, and three for the travelers, from the time of breaking ones ritual purity to the next. This is based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah, (swt) : The travelers wipes for three days, and the resident for one. Wiping Over Socks: Ibn al-Mugheerah narrated from his father (may Allah be pleased with them) that Messenger of Allah (swt) Wiped over his leather socks and over his forelock and turban. In another report, he said: The Messenger of Allah (swt) wiped over the socks and sandals. this Hadith, the is no distinction between thick or thin of socks, thus some scholars allow wiping over all socks, though some understood from the Hadith that you wipe over them only if you are also wearing sandals, or when the socks have leather bottoms. You may also wipe over your shoes if they are up to the ankle or if you have socks underneath them, given that you put the socks and/ or shoes on the after you have made Wudoo, during which you washed your feet. Wiping over socks and over shoes with socks underneath them, as well as over the headscarf for women, are legitimate concessions-based on the revelation-that facilite praying for people. It is therefore essential that we propagate these Sunnah acts. [ Expiry of the Wiping Period, or the Removal of Socks ] Whenever he wipes, and the period ends-or he takes the footwear off before it is over- his purity becomes invalid. [ Traveler Becoming Resident and Vice Versa ] Whoever wipes while traveling and then reaches his place of residence- or while resident and then travels-should wipe for one day only, like a resident. The period of Wiping: Shurayh Ibn Hani (R) said: I came to Aishah( may Allah be pleased with her) to ask her about wiping over the socks. She said: You should ask Ali (R) son of Abu Talib, for he used to travel with Allahs Messenger (pbuh). We asked him, and he said: The Messenger of Allah( pbuh) stipulated ( the upper limit) of three days and three nights for traveler and one day and one night for the resident. No limit. The majority limit it. The above is permitted by consensus. The is no clear proof that the purity becomes invalidated with the removal of socks or turban. Besides, al-Hassan said: If one cuts his hair or clips his nails or takes off his leather socks there is no wudoo due on him. We hope and pray that we keep in touch with Allah (swt) during happiness and sorrows
