One day before the People’s National Movement’s (PNM) screening for six constituencies, San Fernando East among them, there’s still no word from the incumbent and former Prime Minister, Patrick Manning. Nonetheless, screening will proceed as normal. In fact, PNM General Secretary, Ashton Ford, told Newsday while it is not yet known who the contenders are for the Couva North and Moruga/Tableland seats, the nominees for the other seats have been selected: Oropouche West: Clifford Rambharose; Caroni Central: Senator Avinash Singh and Point Fortin: Retired Brigadier General Edmund Dillon and Ken Hackshaw. The nominees for San Fernando East – Kenny Phillips, Christopher Chinapoo and Eber Steele-Attong – have already been made known. Ford said during a brief interview, “For Point Fortin, we have Edmund Dillon, he’s the retired Brigadier General and Ken Hackshaw who is a businessman and lecturer. For Caroni Central, there is Senator Avinash Singh, he’s our guy and Clifford Rambharose for Oropouche West; he is also a businessman. I’m not sure about Couva North and still don’t know who will be screened for Moruga/Tableland.” Dillon , former Chief of Defence Staff and Brigadier General retired in 2010. Dillon holds a Masters in International Relations, has a Fellow of the Institution of Leadership and Management, United Kingdom. Hackshaw is the Managing Director and lead consultant at KHBC Limited, a risk management consulting company. Hackshaw is a lecturer/course facilitator at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (UWI) in Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management and Compliance. In addition, he is the principal consultant and director of studies at the newly formed Caribbean Institute of Risk Management (formerly Trinidad and Tobago Risk Management Institute). He also has become one of the Caribbean’s leading experts in Operational Risk Management and Risk Culture Building. Singh is currently an Opposition Senator and was a PNM candidate for the Chaguanas West bye- election. He is described on the PNM website as “a farmer and agricultural consultant by profession. He is the holder of a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Environmental and Natural Resource Management and in Agricultural Science from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. In addition, he represented Trinidad and Tobago and the Agricultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago on various workshops and seminars regionally.”
