One final clip - the bit where Scrooge raises Bobs salary. Here too Sim as actor shows what surely must be counted genius. There is one element in this last sequence that has always troubled me, however. That is Scrooges tossing of a coin into the beggars cup. Of course its meant to stand in contrast to his earlier refusal to engage in charity. But whats left unanswered in this instance is the question how the Christmas spirit that has prompted Scrooges change can leave the need to beg in place at all.
