One finds limits by pushing them - Herbert Simon And thats what i did at my 24 hour run at Bangalore Ultra 2014. Having not trained enough, i relied on my inner belief, past experience of the race, a few 12 hour running events months before, and my desire to keep pushing my physiological and psychological limits. In the end i finished strongly to clock 165 Kms and was placed joint second. I was happy to achieve the randomly chosen milestone of 100 miles i had set out to do last year. Theres no greater joy than setting a goal and achieveing it, albeit late :) To begin with, I was apprehensive to sign up for this event cause I hadnt trained enough. But then the thought of the whole running experience got me finally. I thought to myself i would have to wait for a whole year to experience this. So took the call to sign up on the last day and started a bit of preparation. Trainings were mostly focussed on strength and flexibility, with a few 10-30 kms thrown in between. A week before the race day, Raj Vadgama was in Bangalore and i was ruing my opportunity of joining him in his whole day running exploits. I managed to get a few KMs here and there though. As usual i checked in (probably with the largest luggage :)) early at 4:30 am on race day. Considering its a 24+ hr sojourn, i like to call it a check-in :). The atmosphere was electric and festive. It was nice to see a whole lot of familiar faces. I wish i had got in a lil early so that i could have soaked in more of the festivities. With a quick medical check-up i was at the start line and of many familiar faces it was not difficult to miss an unknown topless runner raring to go. Da(m)n!, never knew that this runner will blow everyone with his running. Highlights (in random order): - Dans relentless running to cover a mind boggling 226 KMs. I aptly coined the dialogue, Dan ko pakadna muskil hi nahin, namumkin hain. The way he ran the course, I am sure there would be a few more craters enroute after his pounding. Btw, he never walked, he was there to run for sure! And he is a vegetarian, if thats of interest to anyone…it sure did make me happy. - The group of supporters and cheerleaders from Runners High. Your cheering was infectious and all of you were awesome! If there was ever a prize for the best supporter group in running, you guys would win it hands down. #BajateRaho - The Vegan Running gang with their cheering and ladoos. It was a pleasant surprise to see you all. Looking forward to see u all on more running events. #PlantPower - The last few hours of competitive run with Manikandan Seran and Breeze Sharma. It was awesome to see all three of us push through after some 20+ hours of running. Loved it. - All the 24-hr runners on stage after the race. It was a celebration of sorts and all of us had the expression TGIF (Thank God Its Finished). Thanks to all the well-wishers, RFL, volunteers, supporters, photographers to make this run a memorable one. #UltraThanks #UltraRunning #PushYourLimits #ProtonsRunning
