One for all, and all for one This blog has been published by a famous Russian blogger under a nickname ‘drugoi’ (i.e. “other”) on January 24, 2014. Photos by: drugoi There are miracles on Grushevskogo St. – just in few hours hundreds and thousands of people built giant barricades, and thus, they prevented attacks of ‘Berkut’ against the protestors. People are like ants, they carry sacs full of ice, which they collect here, on sidewalks. Discipline is amazing. They dispense sandwiches and tea in the crowd. Atmosphere of mutual support, fellowship, and sympathy. If, eventually, you fall caught in the cord left after burnt tires, all and everyone would rush to help you, raise you, clean you, give you a glass of hot lemon tea. Idlers are not allowed further than the first (internal) barricade. After this barricade, “people are working”. They are all students, employees of small companies, pensioners, people of all ages. Between police lines and the front barricade several priests numb at the freezing wind. They are also given tea. One feels like in a theatre – it looks so unreal, as the big city lives its usual life nearby. Meanwhile, Maydan, which is two steps away from here, “grew” its new barricades during two months. In my opinion, it became a modern art object, as it looks so smashing. This is how the fuel mix is dispensed into bottles. Old tires are brought from service stations all over Kyiv. The first stage of building barricades, i.e. shearing ice on sidewalks. Street cleaners rest. Medical interns. At night they volunteer at first-aid post near the barricades on Grushevskogo St. Folks stand around the fire barrels and sing the national anthem of Ukraine. There are many very young boys and girls. In a nearby café, some strangers borrowed me a helmet and protection glasses, when they recognized me. It looks like painted scenery for a stage play. Even light is similar. Some people with strong lanterns spotlight the windows of a nearby administrative building: they look for sharpshooters. drugoi.livejournal/3936581.html
