One hundred fifty years ago, on January 27, 1864, Confederate surgeon William McPheeters and his colleagues met on the medical matters of the day: January 27th. The Army Medical Association met this morning at our quarters—a good attendance. Two lengthy and good papers were read. One on masturbation and the other on typhoid fever were read and the discussion of these subjects occupied the time of the meeting for several hours pleasant and profitably. Late in the evening [I] accompanied Maj. Cabell in a walk.
