One important problem (which is not mentioned in this article) with using sulfur oxides to block solar radiation and offset global warming, is illustrated by the fact that the cooling resulting from the Pinatubo eruption only lasted two or three years, while excess CO2 emitted today will remain in the atmosphere for tens of thousands of years. In other words, sulfur oxides rain out relatively quickly, while CO2 remains for extremely long periods. Thus, if CO2 emissions were to continue, emissions of sulfur oxides would need to increase every year, having greater and greater pollution consequences every year.
