One major casualty of the coming Republican majority in Congress - TopicsExpress

One major casualty of the coming Republican majority in Congress is the end of the CBOs neutrality in the calculation of the effects of social policies. The CBO, the Congressional Budget Office, has been the bane to both partys attempts to use fake numbers in calculating the effects of proposals, but until now, both sides accepted the CBO as an honest neutral broker. They both wanted at least one set of analysts not tied to ideology. But honesty doest make the GOP look too good. So the Republicans plan to remove of the head of the CBO, because he refuses to use what the Republicans call dynamic scoring. What is dynamic scoring? It is the kind of math that lets you make assumptions not borne out by reality. Republicans want the CBO to regard tax cuts as revenue-enhancing rather than causing diminishing revenue. This means they want to be able to subtract money from the budget without it being called a subtraction. They want 5-1 to equal 6 instead of 4. This whole affair is sad since the CBO has been the honest broker in the evaluation of competing economic plans. Now there will be no neutral body to make economic projections of politicians proposals. In other words, Republicans want to be able to lie with impunity without being called out by neutral analysts. One more loss for the truth in American politics.
