One major problem / issue faced with Yanks of a particular - TopicsExpress

One major problem / issue faced with Yanks of a particular persuasion, including ABCDs, was that they would constantly forget or mispronounce or shorten our names. This I spotted as a form of one-upmanship by said Yanks from as far back as the mid 70s, it didnt matter if you were wearing a name-tag or ID, maybe that was something they were taught when working with their Armed Forces suppressing freedom in the name of Liberty all over the world. One solution for this was to have your name on safety helmets in big bold letters. But an even better solution was to call them by some other name. Thus, famously, one time there was this gent, let us call him Kirk because that was his name. I would, in the course of a meeting, refer to him as John, Jack, Bob and then eventually when I would call him Dick, he would explode. It never failed to work, and body language was my victory after that, because he would then take great care to refer to me as Malik the way I wanted it pronounced. Now coming to a story a little bird told me, seems a particular visitor to India passed a snide one that he was finding it difficult to remember the names of all these tin-pot rulers, and so the said ruler figured out that a good way to get the message across was to get a suit stitched using fabric that had his name all over it. Though I do wonder if NaMo called him Osama by mistake?
