One might ask why the tribe of Benjamin included in the House of Judah when the division that God had ordered that took place after Solomone death. We know that God had said that the house of David would be left under the control of Solomons Son but why did the tribe of Benjamin also join Judah? We find the answer in 1 Samuel 20. Jonathan and David made a Covenant. David as we know was of the Tribe of Judah. Jonathans tribe is not well known but it was the tribe of Benjamin. There was a covenant made between those two. So went the relationship between the tribe of Benjamin and the tribe of Judah and the two were united as the Southern Kingdom of Israel, the House of Judah, to this day. Oh, we call them Israel today but that is only because the Northern Kingdom, the House of Israel ceased to exist as such and the House of Judah assumed the name, Israel. 1Sa 18:3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 1Sa 18:4 And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt. 1Sa 20:15 but you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when the LORD has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth. 1Sa 20:16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD require it at the hand of Davids enemies. 1Sa 20:17 Now Jonathan again caused David to vow, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul. 1Sa 23:18 So the two of them made a covenant before the LORD. And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house.
