One must be prepared to sacrifice all desirability to truth Every truth, even plain, harsh, ugly, repellent, unchristian, immoral truth. For such truths do exist. At every step, one has to wrestle for truth. One has had to surrender for it almost everything to which the heart, to which our love, our trust in life cling otherwise. That requires greatness of soul. The service of truth is the hardest service. - Friedrich Nietzsche According to Nietzsche, the church taught everyone that without God there is no happiness, no hope and no meaning. And now that all the proofs of God have been refuted and we have found that there is no God, the church is responsible for making a place for people such as Schopenhauer who believe just that. Nietzsche wants a meritocracy which ranks people according to their ability to contribute creativity to cultural life. While critical of democracy, he believed this could happen if there was a democratic peace where people did not have to maintain their own security. Listening to Nietzsche’s views raised the hair on the back of my neck. I imagined a young Hitler reading his views and determining to rid the world of the Gypsies, the Gays and the Jews. In fact, he was misunderstood. The Nazis acted upon their mistaken idea of his views. Nietzsche clarifies, in his The Means to Peace: To disarm, while being the best armed out of an elevation of sensitivity. That is the means to real peace. Better to perish than to hate and fear. And two fold better to perish than to make one’s self hated and feared. This must one day become the supreme maxim of every individual state. https://youtube/watch?v=yJs6WTO7f3A&index=19&list=PLDLWkEm-ud7SmBOkl8ePB1Jxd3NayXgIc
