One my own personal inspirations, EFE | Egypt alumni Ahmed Sakr, discusses his journey from a street vendor to a Souq content associate. Such an honor to know him, and countless other alumni who have worked incredibly hard to launch their careers in a country that overwhelmingly discriminates and marginalizes based on socioeconomic background. When I was around 12 years old, some of my friends worked as construction laborers, and others worked as street vendors in train and bus stations. I tried working as a laborer a few times — I even tried work as a cotton picker — but I wanted to be different. My teachers always told me that I could be something more. They believed in me, and so I believed in education. [...] This [EFE|Egypt] course completely changed my life. When you live a life like mine, you have to deal with not being accepted by most of society. But like my grade school teachers did, the instructors at EFE|Egypt taught us that if we work hard, we can change our own lives. I believed in this. [...] I feel as though every day before Feb. 2, 2013 was a search for myself. My first day at Souq was the beginning of my future. I have always wanted to use my mind for work, and not by body as a laborer. Now I get to do that for the top e-commerce company in the region.
