One national news outlet is reporting that the alleged shooter involved in last nights tragic shootings in Santa Barbara, California, according to the alleged shooters family attorney, had an Asperger syndrome diagnosis. We send our thoughts and prayers to those who tragically lost their life last night. And we send our thoughts and prayers to the speedy and full recovery of others shot last night. We also ask the media, when reporting about the alleged shooter, not to imply, suggest or say their is a link among autism and violence. There isnt and reputable study after study has concluded no such link. To suggest such a link further impacts the difficulties a person living with autism faces each day as they seek the highest quality of life possible. The media is also reporting that the alleged shooter was bullied on a regular basis and we do know that individuals with an autism diagnosis are more often bullied and have acts of violence directed at them.
