One not spoken secret about Ironman racing is that the night of the race you dont sleep (or at least not enough). While your body works on recovery you wont be able to have that dreamed quality sleep. Theres a theory in sport science that states that every time you race an Ironman your body ages 12 years, same effect as sitting in a couch for those 12 years. It recovers quickly though. I would rather race anytime. Dehydration, calorie depravation and racing effort makes your body work on muscle and tissue repair. Heres how the body looks like the day after.
