One of Moruyas First Anzacs - In his own words “I wasn’t a hero. It was just a case of--you made friends and mates while you were training and you wanted to join them. Not from any heroism. Don’t put me down as that, for god’s sake, I’m no bloody hero.” Leopold (Bill) de Saxe. Leopold, a teller at the Bank of NSW, enlisted on 17.08.1914, just days after the declaration of war. He landed in Gallipoli 99years ago today and fought there until his evacuation on the night of 19/20 November, 1915.
