One of Nigerias leading Magazines, just contacted me to publish this my write-up I wrote in Nov., 2013. I tag it: UNEMPLOYMENT; BITTER TRUTH TO NIGERIA YOUTH. Here is it; I had a heated argument with a friend, we went to the same university, we have known for sometime now. I received a call, talked with the person for over 15 minutes, when I ended the call, she got to know who the caller was, the next thing from her mouth; tell her to give me a job. I laughed and tried to counsel her that unemployment is a national pandemic and to keep good relationship with any high profile personality, one have to be careful not to be a burden. Nothing kills relationships faster like economic burden. If the opportunity arises one can help, but carrying it on ones forehead, may shut down the heart and door of greatness to someone. She became violent, then I understood what her problem is. Her name is Nancy, she read Management Science and graduated 2009. She had served her NYSC. I asked her what kind of job does she want, she replied; any good job with good pay. At this point I understood her predicaments. She began to tell me how she had applied in INEC, Immigration, Road Safety, NAFDAC, EFFCC, Civil Service commission, SSS... even from these names, you can see that there is no sincerity of purpose in her job search. She doesnt know what she wants, all she wants is employment. Since 2009 she left school, she has not read any book to enhance and improve her quest for employment. Nancy has a problem, and there are many Nancys on our streets today hoping and searching for non existing jobs. Her problem is not lack of employment but lack of empowerment. Those are the people I want to address here. Nancy wants a Govt job which she can later in life live on pension, I told her to point at 10 holistic pensioners that she envy and wants to be like after which she must have exhausted 35 years of her life for pensionable job. Today, we see pensioners who cant go back their villages, economy is fast reducing many of our senior citizens to gate men and drivers in cities where they retired. I told Nancy what she needs, is not a good job but a good mindset. The school went to only gave her credentials but never activated her potentials. I recommended books for her and told she needs to start something while waiting for job. She said; I dont have money. I smiled, this is a lady whose BlackBerry is over 70, 000. She does BBM subscription of 1,500 every month, she dresses above her means. I told her to sell her phone and start a small business for God blesses the works of mans hand and not idleness. But from what I see, she would never do that, she prefers looking for who to hang her predicaments on. I am talking to so many Nancys today, start something! No true greatness starts big. I am talking from experience, I have sold recharge cards before under the Mango tree in front of Makurdi Police Headquarters. The newspaper vendor there; Mr Monday can confirm this. He is still there till today. This happened between may 2005 and February 2006 before I got admission and planted a friend Heman who was giving me returns till my year 2 when the business scattered. I started the business with nothing, Mr Patrick Oshoke Momudu was sending me MTN VTU from Abuja, I was sending his money through his Standard Trust Bank account. He stated with 5,000, later 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 daily before I left for school. I was selling SIM cards and one of my major hits was sale of WAEC scratch cards. I was the one doing e-transfers to the phone lines of commissioner: Azubiko Udah, Late Minak Aro (Asistant commissioner of police) Samuel Jinadu (PRO) among others. They flash, I send, collect my accumulated money later. Up till this moment, I have never met with Mr Patrick Oshoke Momudu. If I see him on the road, I wont know him. He trusted me with 5,000, I delivered and that trust grew to 50,000! Each morning when I arrived at my point of sales, newspaper vendor Mr Monday would leave his table for me to look after so that he could supply papers inside. This made me to be reading virtually all the newspapers, magazines. My reading efficiency was greatly enhanced this period. There were times I was borrowing papers and magazines to read through the nights and return the following day. In the eyes of some people, I was suffering, selling recharge cards was degrading and embarrassment to my family. But in the eyes of destiny, I was been wired for greatness. Today, I tell people, if comedy dont work again, I would look for something and start afresh... I am not scared of starting! It pains me, when Nigeria imports virtually everything and graduates would not tap into something within to create something. If you are a graduate of animal production, and since you left school you have not produced even 1 tilapia fish or chicken... YOU ARE A BIG FAILURE. If you are a graduate of business management, and since you graduated, you have never designed a business plan... YOU ARE A FAILURE! You read chemistry and finished with a good grade, you have never experimented the act of soap making that you were taught as saponification ... THAT IS FAILURE! You can not sell akara on the road but can stand on the road at nights... THIS IS MADNESS! You can not work as a labourer here in Nigeria, but you can wash dead bodies in Europe... THIS IS MENTAL SLAVERY. The problem youths have today is that they want to hammer. The want the glory without story, mantles without battles, crown without challenge. Yams are cheap in Benue and Nassarawa, but expensive in Rivers, Bayelsa and Lagos... THAT IS A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY! Nigeria spends 1 billion naira daily on rice import... THIS IS A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY! Start something, no matter how small it is. God does not reward idleness! He only blesses the works of your hands... STOP HARASSING PEOPLE WITH CVS. UNEMPLOYMENT IS A NATIONAL PANDEMIC! OH! GOD OF CREATION, HELP OUR YOUTHS THE TRUTH TO KNOW! Nigeria I hail thee! ENENCHE ENENCHE ( COMEDIAN )
