One of Pakistans best writers weighs in on the drone debate. Read this. --- Is fighting against these terrorists possible without affecting the civilians? Is there a way to counter the Taliban without any civilian casualties? Is this argument too insensitive? ...If you think that negotiating with these terrorists, where the sole criterion is heads they win, tails we lose is a viable option then let’s also negotiate with all other gangs and mafia in Pakistan. Is the special treatment reserved for the TTP, just because they call themselves the flag bearers of Islam? And why are the allegations of imperialism and breaching Pakistan’s sovereignty solely directed towards the US, when the TTP have been guilty of both at a prodigiously larger scale? ...One does understand that being against both drone strikes and the Taliban is the most politically correct stance among the Pakistani ‘intelligentsia’, but if you’re not for negotiations and are also against drone strikes, your contribution to the drone debate sums up to being the square root of naught. If you want to kill the terrorists, drones are the most effective way of doing so – no two ways about it. ---
