One of historys most ground breaking apostles of the bible, Paul. I am fascinated by this man, not simply because of his New Testament order of the church, but of his striking example of endurance and faith in Jesus. Not only does he meet Jesus on the road to Damascus and become blinded but goes on to spend a little over three years in the desert of Arabia. An educated Jew with the equivalent of two PHDs goes wandering around in the desert for three years???? What happened out there to produce such a radical conversion of the author responsible for 3/4 of the new testament? How did he become spirit filled to the point of defining the gifts of the Spirit and establishing a personal relationship with Jesus? Most of the other apostles spent up to three years under the instruction of Jesus. Paul goes to the desert for three years..... I leave the rest of that thought with all of you. All I know is that each of us goes through a desert experience once, if not more often, as a believer. What do we learn from them? How to overcome and become even more intimate with Jesus. Life changing experiences that never come when you expect them. A real knowledge that we walk with God and belong in His reality rather then the reality of the world. A deeper maturity that increases our ability to love others as our real brothers and sisters in Christ. There is a huge difference between knowing who you are and trying to find your identity in Christ. Paul knew who he was and was actually radical enough to establish who we are as gentiles. He was known as the Apostle TO the gentiles. Imagine that.
