One of (many) reasons I dont follow pro sports. This kind of political activism while being paid to be entertainers is completely unacceptable. The police are deserving of a PERSONAL apology from each of these clowns, not simply a PC, generic, aw shucks from their ignorant management. If their coach had any integrity he would have benched all 5 of these idiots. St. Louis Police demand apology from Rams for Hands up, Dont shoot gesture Five members of the St. Louis Rams stood in solidarity with the Ferguson protests prior to Sundays game against the Oakland Raiders. Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Kenny Britt, Jared Cook and Chris Givens displayed the Hands up, Dont shoot gesture upon entering the field during player introductions. The St. Louis Police Officers Association (SLPOA) were irate afterwards, calling the act tasteless, offensive and inflammatory in an official statement released Sunday. An excerpt of the statement is below: The SLPOA is calling for the players involved to be disciplined and for the Rams and the NFL to deliver a very public apology. (SLPOA Business Manager Jeff) Roorda said he planned to speak to the NFL and the Rams to voice his organizations displeasure tomorrow. He also plans to reach out to other police organizations in St. Louis and around the country to enlist their input on what the appropriate response from law enforcement should be. Roorda warned, I know that there are those that will say that these players are simply exercising their First Amendment rights. Well Ive got news for people who think that way, cops have first amendment rights too, and we plan to exercise ours. Id remind the NFL and their players that it is not the violent thugs burning down buildings that buy their advertisers products. Its cops and the good people of St. Louis and other NFL towns that do. Somebody needs to throw a flag on this play. If its not the NFL and the Rams, then itll be cops and their supporters. The full statement can be read here.
