One of my best friends is a brilliant man. His name is Ian and he is an encyclopedia - I can ask him about pretty nearly anything about history or about American architecture or traditional building and he can answer it. His broad knowledge never ceases to amaze, impress, and entertain me. Many of you know him and those who dont have probably heard stories about my friend who started his own timber framing company New Netherland Timber Framing, whos finishing a MA at Boston University in historic preservation, who is the builder known as The Medieval Woodwright, and who rounds it all out with experience in New England gravestone restoration and the ethics of dealing with these personal monuments as they are ravaged by time (and weed whackers.) He has an opportunity to travel to the Netherlands to study traditional Dutch architecture for a while (and some of other regions if he can travel father while there) this fall. He has started a gofundme to help afford the trip because - new business and grad school dont leave much for extra opportunities. Drew Bouchard and I are going to support him in his goal to go because he will bring back a stupid amount of knowledge from this trip. We are contributing $30 to him. We are choosing to give it to him directly when we see him in a couple of weeks rather than give via the gofundme site, but I wanted to give you the opportunity to know about my beloved friend and, if you have the means and motivation, to help him go and learn cool things about the building methods of people who built our nations cities (New Amsterdam, yo, the Dutch, they are historically influential! ;) ) And if you are willing to give $25, hell even send you a postcard from the land of clogs and tulips (and oil paintings and really weird buildings that were erected after WWII!) Good luck Ian. Cant wait for the postcard! gofundme/e7rybo
