One of my brief BRUSHES WITH FAME was asking Kurt Vonnegut a question after a presentation at a massive conference hall at FSU when I was a young college student in the English program. I read Cats Cradle in high school and wanted to at least ask an intelligent question, and it didnt get any laughs from the crowd. I said In Cats Cradle, the chemical compound ICE-9 is really devastating. Was that based on something you heard or read, or from your imagination? (yes, thats filled with embellishment) His answer, briefly, was that he heard about it from some German lab technicians, and that was that. Though I havent read any more of his books, I loved that he appeared in Rodney Dangerfields movie Back to School. This guy is so down to earth. Here he demonstrates - yet again - how frickin COOL he is! What a great guy and a brilliant message!!! RIP KV. Your fan, Torch
