One of my dear friends and fellow Anaheimian :-) Martha Ramirez, shared these lovely photos and some family history with me today. Her aunt, Juanita Elias was voted Queen of Anaheim (Circa 1933), her mother Matilda Elias was also voted Queen of Anaheim (Circa 1944) -- here are their photos, along with a photo of Matilda and her twin brothers (Ed & Ernie) during WWII. All three of their brothers (including Gilbert; not seen in photo), enlisted in the military the day after the horrific attack at Pearl Harbor. Ed received the medal of honor for the shooting of many Japanese planes during several dog fights. Their father, Mr. Jose Quate Elias (Marthas grandfather) was the field boss at the packing house. His daughters, the Elias sisters (Juanita aka Jenny, Josephine aka Josie, Matilda aka Tillie and Mary) also worked at the packing house, although they didnt need the money, instead they did it in order to meet boys. Their family was at one time one of the richest Mexican families in Anaheim.
