One of my favorite Christian authors and speakers is Chuck Swindoll. He has a way of speaking about Christianity in a down home, common sense fashion that resonates within my heart. I read his devotion titled God Loves Us Still this morning, one of many devotions that he compiled in his book, Wisdom for the Way - Wise Words for Busy People. Chuck writes: From a distance, we dazzle; up close, were tarnished. Put enough of us together and we may resemble an impressive mountain range. But when you get down into the shadowy crevices . . . the Alps we aint. Thats why our Lord means so much to us. He is intimately acquainted with all our ways. Darkness and light are alike to him. No one of us is hidden from His sight. All things are open and laid bare before Him; our darkest secret, our deepest shame, our stormy past, our worst thought, our hidden motive, our vilest imagination . . . even our vain attempts to cover the ugly with snow-white beauty. He sees is all. He knows our frame. He remembers we are dust. Best of all, He loves us still. What wonderful words of reassurance for us this morning! Yes, we know we arent perfect. Weve sinned and continue to do so. We have some things we bury within ourselves, hoping they will never come to light. But God knows all about us, and He loves us still. There is nothing you can do to stop God from loving you. To me, that thought brings me the most comfort. It doesnt mean I get a free sin as much as you want card to use whenever I screw up. It means that God loves me . . . ALWAYS loves me . . . no matter what: now, it is up to me to share the love, grace, and forgiveness of God with everyone I meet, just as God has shared it with me. And although I write this from my perspective, using the words ME and I, these words are meant for YOU and for ALL OF US. It is up to US to share Gods love, grace, and forgiveness with others, just as God shared it with US. Amen. ~John Lloyd~
