One of my favorite Russian folk songs. Barge Haulers on the Volga Burlaki na Volge. This is actually the song that the real barge haulers would sing when they dragged huge boats across Volga. The song was collected by Mily Balakirev, and published in his book of folk songs in 1866. The painting in the video is also very famous. It was created by Ilya Repins and depicts such burlaks in Tsarist Russia toiling along the Volga. it was his first piece that Repin considered Barge Haulers to be his first professional painting and it is the work that defined him as a master documentarian of social inequality. https://youtube/watch?v=kQmF31pn_fk
