One of my favorite things about being on the campaign trail this - TopicsExpress

One of my favorite things about being on the campaign trail this past year has been running into old friends and making connections with new ones. For example, Friday night in New Castle, a couple people came up before the dinner and said that they knew my dad. Ones father was the blacksmith in Dunreith and knew Dad very well when my family lived there. I mentioned the restaurant my parents owned in Henry County - Nickerson Farms - and that I cooked there the summers of 1971, 1972 and 1973. When the local candidates spoke, a County Council candidate said that his wife had worked at Nickerson Farms. A School Board candidate said that she won a monthly award as best table busser and remembered me in the kitchen! No one came up to complain about my cooking. Then at breakfast this morning a guy came over and told me that he had been the engineer on an economic development project in southern Indiana many years ago that I did the bonds for. He said that he is following the race and wished me luck. Both sides of my family are from Indiana, but my Hoosier family is larger than I ever imagined. I look forward to seeing/meeting more of you on the road! - MAC
