One of my favorite things about touring is staying in the house of a stranger who turns out to be a kindred spirit, and an epically fantastic host. Like Anni, in Montreal, who welcomed us into her home at 2am, served us some kind of miraculous cocktail sprinkled with fresh nutmeg, put a plate of orange slices by the bed (for morning breath), and then woke us with the smell of frying sausage and eggs. Or Johnny, in Charleston, who didnt know me from Adam but came to the show, talked to me til the wee hours, and sent me off with three pounds of fancy artisan chocolate (which he made himself cus thats his job - talk about good luck). Touring is a crazy grueling silly thing to do, and good people make it emphatically worth the trouble. Were about to play shows in 35 cities, and Ive only got friends in about half of them. If you or anyone you know is the kind of joyful spirit who delights in opening their home to the dollar-poor but music-rich, in exchange for warm hugs and free tickets and good company, please send them my way (carsie@carsieblanton). I consider it a great privilege to rely on the invisible underground network of fantastically generous strangers; it reminds me that the world is good. Tour dates at carsieblanton/shows - there are 3-5 of us (depending on the city), and well be looking to stay in every city where we have a show (plus en route between shows). Please SHARE!
