One of my fond memories as scholar at University of Luzon in Dagupan was to have an old professor who was a Senator Fullbright Scholar at Michigan University in the US. I dont know if he is still alive but this old maestro who was a classmate of Raul Manglapus used to open his discourse in our class with the rhetorical question why Johnny fails. When I heard this question the first time in our class my guess was he was Juan Tamad. I was wrong. Johnny fails, explained the old maestro, because he was afraid even if he knows the answer. Which is why Chuchill once said courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities, because, as has been said, it is the quality which guarantees all others. I salute all my fellow courageous OFW here in the middle east. Keep it up because were doing honor for our homeland despite fighting loneliness and even the danger that goes along with working in a foreign place that is far and away from home!
