One of my former Soldiers sent me a message about the next step in - TopicsExpress

One of my former Soldiers sent me a message about the next step in his life after the Army: law enforcement. While Im going to protect his identity, Ive always been impressed with him. I want to share something he sent me (with permission) because it highlights something Ive been talking about extensively for the past two years. Ive been and will continue to be very critical of LEOs. Admittedly, I have a very sour taste in my mouth for the profession as a whole since my two arrests last year for non-crimes. However, I know that there are some people out there that do it for the right reasons and honor their oaths. I just wish there were more of them. Likewise, I get pissed when people lump all troops into either the good or bad bin. There are MANY troops that are also oath keepers and joined to make a real difference, not earn a paycheck just to kill people. If the crap hits the fan, these troops and peace officers will be on the right side - that of the American people. So, he knows who I am talking about when I say I am deeply proud of the man I call friend, but I want to also anonymously share what he wrote to me because it touched me on several levels. I wont reveal to which department he was hired onto, just know that there are good people like this out there...somewhere: ...I take on this new career at a time in which LEO has forgotten its primary function and constant violations of public service principles are ignored/trampled on. I am an oath keeper and I share all this with you because I know you to be a man of integrity and honor and this message will serve to hold me accountable should I ever feel the urge to falter from my oath. The thin blue line exists and will never go away...the bond LEOs have is crucial to their profession. But I will NEVER let it interfere with my beliefs/values and my commitment to upholding the constitution. There is a problem with the system and I feel my place in fixing it is to become that system and bring back some of the honor for that profession... Many people want to be a part of the system to fix the system. Such is the case as to why I stayed in the Army so long. Ultimately, I think I failed, but I hope that I at least influenced some good men and women to look at things differently, understanding their oaths and who they serve.
