One of my friends commented that he was a liberal, but he began to ask himself questions that caused him to turn conservative. That turn from liberal to conservative is much much more common. Some of the old line Republicans have turned to Democrats in disgust of the takeover of the radical Tea Party folk. Heres an interesting study on the causes of ones turn from liberal to conservative. Youve probably seen this post before, but it outlines the causes of the descent (yes descent) from liberal to conservative. CAUSES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGE FROM NORMALCY TO CONSPIRITORIAL CONSERVATISM From the Rupert Murdoch controlled WALL STREET JOURNAL (WSJ) comes the story of, Donald Larking, a client and friend of the elder of the two Boston bombers, the late Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Article Tues Aug 8, 2013, P1, Col 3, titled Bombing Suspect Steeped in Conspiracies, by Alan Cullison. Quotes from the WSJ will be placed in quotation marks. Tamerlans mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, worked as a home health aide and in 2010 was assigned to care for 67 year old Donald Larking, who miraculously survived being shot in the face 40 years ago during the robbery of a convenience store. Larkings friends, however, have said that “Larkings mental faculties did not survive.” Tamerlan Tsarnaev took over care of Larking from his mother. Tamerlan and Larking became fast friends. Larking began going to Tsarnaevs Mosque, and continues going there. Larking believes Tsarnaev is not guilty, and that a conspiracy is responsible for the belief that he is guilty of the Boston Marathon bombing. As a result of his brain injury, Larking became paranoid and conspiratorial, which would put him on the conservative side of the political fence. “He became intrigued with far-flung conspiracies....he subscribed to newspapers and journals that doubted the Holocaust, and described the attacks of Sept. 11, Oklahoma City, and the Newtown school, as plots by unseen elites, the U.S. and Israeli governments.” Suffice it to say the mans turn to insanity was caused by his severe brain injury. Would those who have the same beliefs, regardless of the intensity, also be classified as insane? This anonymous psychologist really believes the answer is yes. I do NOT think that people who are afraid of the government, who subscribe to the theories, like, for example, that President Obama was not born in the USA, and otherwise subscribe to similar theories, which absolutely have no basis whatsoever in fact, and further, have been 100% disproven, are not people of sound mind. One does not have to have a bullet fly though his brain to arrive at these states of mind, sadly. One (1) may be born that way, or (2) may change from normal to the conservative paranoid state by corrosive brain disease, whether senile dementia or Alzheimer’s. Finally, this descent into the mental illness of paranoia may also be caused by (3) side effect of medication, (4) an infection, (6) fatigue, (7) poor nutrition and finally in some individuals, (8)-detioration of brain function as a normal process of aging, outside of corrosive brain disease. Conclusion: paranoia is a mental illness.
