One of my greatest fears and what brought up my original post is that Concessions contracts are coming up for renewal. NOW is the time to force a new CRMP, especially including one that forces a fully NEPA-compliant evaluation of what concessions services are necessary and appropriate. GCPBA has no credibility due to their bedroom antics with the outfitters, GCROA and GCRRA. RRFW is also sidelined given their history of litigation. Some of the most vocal and energetic of our spokesman are getting, well, old and lacking either resources or energy to push the battle forward yet again. Isnt it time for a new organization, true to the original principles of GCPBA and RRFW to come together and fight this next battle? Isnt it time for non-commercial river runners to reestablish a powerful voice? I for one was crushed when GCPBA compromised and sold out to the outfitters during the last CRMP - The Firewalk talks, the secret letter of agreement. I believe David Brower said something to the effect that all environmental organizations end up selling out and compromising with their worst enemies after about 8 or 10 years. Isnt it time we got someone new to represent us at the table - to FORCE them back to the table? The resource is suffering, non-commercial boaters are suffering... We have to do something to block the renewal of concessions contracts and renegotiate the CRMP for the next decade.
