One of my many interests lies in filling in surveys. Sometimes there is a question that requires subjects to state their class - i.e. upper middle, working class, poor, etc. I find such arbitrary class systems misleading. Like many people who derive their income from the arts, financially I am poor, but in terms of education and interests I am middle class, maybe even upper middle. Both need to be taken into account when formulating any system that divides people into classes. It seems that in Australia, class equates with income. If we must have classes, there should be a class that sets writers, actors, musos and other artists apart. Maybe rogues and vagabonds? :-)
