One of my strengths as a producer has always been the ability to construct a strong beat and convincing human drum performance out of non-human elements and samples. Its pain staking and there have been times Ive lost song ideas because of the time it takes to construct the appropriate groove ( Ive since compartmentalized my writing process). The things is, as I evolve ALL I want out of my rhythmic components is human/organic sounds and feel. I want the moment. I want the imperfection. Im committing myself to learn how to physically execute what I hear in my head and what I have traditionally manifested with technological solutions because I realize my strength is not just in my technical ingenuity but in my sense of rhythm. I know this will be a frustrating trip but its time to tackle this obstacle. I have a sound in my head Ive not yet fully explored because I lack the verbal facility to articulate it to another human. I believe in personal challenges and taking chances outside of my comfort zone when it comes to creating true art. Maybe youll hear the fruits of this experiment, maybe you wont. Hopefully it informs other aspects of what I do as I explore it. Nothing ventured...
