One of my very earliest memories, from Willesden in north-west London, is of a jigsaw puzzle showing a map of the world. Targeted at children, the map portrayed iconic wild animals characteristic of each region. Ever since I have had both a fascination for maps (of which I have a sizable collection), and an excitement about things coming to me from different parts of the world. Whenever I shop, which is frequently, I make a point of determining the provenance of all fresh fruit and vegetables that I buy, and at home we often play game of guessing where each item was grown. Imagine my joy this morning when Steve, the local Interlink Express delivery driver brought me my parcel of herbs (culinary and medicinal) and spices: natural products from all over the world. It was suggested to me that I plot them on a map, so that is what I did, and here it is: my herb and spice mappa mundi.
