One of our Featured Speakers: Dr. Ellen Farrell. Dr. Farrell will tell the stories of women overcoming great obstacles to achieve entrepreneurial opportunities. She will give tips about building relationships in sales and developing strategic partnerships. Ellen Farrell is a professor at the Sobey School of Business at Saint Marys University. Dr. Farrell specializes in venture capital and her primary research relates to informal venture capital. She has been nationally recognized as a mentor, a scholar, and a favoured instructor on numerous occasions. With her coaching, teams have competed at national and international competitions with notable prize winnings in graduate and undergraduate categories – amassing a total of more than $250,000 in prizes for her students. Dr. Farrell has conducted research for Industry Canada, Nova Scotia Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, ACOA, and the Atlantic Provinces Chambers of Commerce and the Office of Economic Development for the Province of Nova Scotia. Her experience in starting companies brings a unique perspective to her teaching. She has started a number of ventures and was the only women to have received venture capital under the Province’s former Venture Capital Act.
