One of our supporters has sent us another near-miss video, along with his testimonial about why he believes having DRLs or low beam headlights on during the daylight hours would help prevent situations like this from occurring. Read his testimonial below - thanks very much Anthony Bland! I was travelling at 100km/h on the Bass Highway in the left lane inbound to Cranbourne, a green VS Berlina was in the centre island intending to turn right into the inbound lanes. As I approached the intersection I stayed left as the right lane was clear allowing him to join, he began to pull out and I assumed he was going to stay right, however as I got closer he continued coming left. With no time to effectively brake, I made the decision to steer left into the shoulder and just had to hang on to maintain control as the right hand side wheels were bouncing off the road edge. Im not sure how I was not seen as my truck is white, and also, he only had to check his left before merging... as the flow of traffic on he was joining was two inbound lanes. A excellent example as to why DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) should be standard equipment on trucks, it has been brought to my attention by HOLCIMs Safety Officer/Trainer for Transport, that HOLCIM are interested and acting on the move Truckies Lighting Up For Safety that this and other incidents is going to used in the next transport safety meeting to argue for DRLs to be fitted to all HOLCIM trucks as it has been proven that even a big white truck in day time can be unseen however it is impossible for any person to allow themselves to ignore light, and DRLs. I recommend ANY road user, buy and install Dash cams.... they lower your insurance, and in the event of a accident, will provide EXACT proof of what happened... the camera i am using is a VISIONDRIVE VD8000HDS and is a excellent system, it records GPS location, brake force, moving force, cornering force and speed, I also have the VISIONDRIVE VD8000HDS/400R fitted in my ute.
