One of our vets, Gemma Dransfield, switched species yesterday when the practice was called urgently to attend another road traffic accident. An animal transporter over turned on the A59 at the junction with the York ring road. Gemma worked along side the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, North Yorkshire Police and the RSPCA in an attempt to save the 210 pigs trapped inside the vehicle. It took more than 2 hours of team work to access all the pigs and the majority of them survived and were transported back to a local farm. Gemma, returned back to a usual day working in the equine clinic again today, but was pleased that she could assist all those involved and ensure that the pigs were cared for appropriately.
