One of several high priority tasks for this haul out is replacing the old 6 exhaust elbows of which there are a pair for each engine. The black tape is an adhesive bandage covering some pin holes in the upstream starboard unit. After removal of both elbows, I found the cedar stiffener attached to the transom planks to be somewhat rotted. Thankfully, the transom planks are fine (pretty good for a 1968 wood boat). For those not into boats, you may have heard the adage that a boat is a hole in the water one throws money into. B.O.A.T. is an acronym: Bring Out Another Thousand. Theres another: C.O.W. Creates Other Work. Our boat is mooing like a Holstein and what may have looked like a simple task just got more complicated and expensive. Thank goodness I can do most of this work myself. In the end, however, Captain Lori J Hill and her first mate and boat driver (yours truly) will be confident in our cruising knowing we did the job right.
