Read more news below from the neighborhood association and email washingtonsquareneighborhood@gmail to sign up for WSPNA email news. _________________________ Good Morning Neighbors: Here is a quick update on happenings around our neighborhood - 1 - Active in the WSPNA? - The WSPNA is always looking for interested and willing volunteers to help with ideas, events, and general neighborhood maintenance. You may know of the Washington Square Parks Farmers Market, running Wednesdays thru September. Foodlink will be discussing options with us in the next few months on making the market bigger and better for next year. Please let us know if you would like to join the conversation on an individual level or from the organizational level in the neighborhood. Email response if fine. 2 - #MWADV - The WSPNA has co-produced Movies with a Downtown View at Manhattan Square Park with The Little Theatre and the Rochesteriat. Our first event on 7/25, drew nearly 300 movie-goers and picnickers to the lawn of the park. This event was a tribute to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and we had FREE gelato, FREE popcorn, food trucks, Roc Brewing, and many vendors participate in the festivities. The next and final movie event for the year is tonight, Friday, 8/15, 6p - 10pm. The movie being shown is called The Kings of Summer, and there is a grand prize raffle give-away of 2 RT tickets on JetBlue to anywhere youd like to go just for completing a short survey. downtownrocmovies 3 - GROCERY - We also congratulate the owners of Harts Grocers for opening the first downtown grocery store in nearly 2 decades! This is simply a short walk from our neighborhood. 4 - Traffic Box - The traffic box at the Central Library was completed earlier this summer thanks to artist Mona Oates. Please see attached picture. 5 - REOC B-STRO: Please check out the attached menu of a lesser-known secret in the neighborhood: lunch served and prepared by the students in the Culinary Arts Program. Affordable prices! 6 - Mini Clean Sweep - On Wednesday, August 20th, the WSPNA and the REOC will team up for a mini-Clean Sweep of the Washington Square Park and the Manhattan Square Park. If youd like to join us, please let me know via email response. All supplies will be provided by the city. 7 - On the Fringe - The Fringe Fest will be coming back this fall and will be around our neighborhood September 18-27th. There is a FREE production of Circus Orange that you wont want to miss! Our friends at The First Universalist Church have invited all of us to join them on 9/19 for a Potluck dinner prior to the Circus Orange show. See attached information. 8 - For Sale - For anyone interested, here is a quick read on the only unit currently available for sale at the Capron Lofts. 9 - Congrats! - A Big Congratulations goes out to Patrick Dutton and his wife Simone, neighborhood residents, on the Opening of Apogee Wine Bar in the Park Ave Neighborhood. Check it out! 10 - Development - There is a lot of construction activity going on in the neighborhood. Patrick Dutton and his team are in the midst of a complete renovation around the Merkel Donohue complex. Here is the latest, and also stay tuned for Fashion Week of Rochester at the Merkel Donohue Building on October 16th!
