One of the Mid-Devon Hunt’s favourite meets – The Tors Hotel - TopicsExpress

One of the Mid-Devon Hunt’s favourite meets – The Tors Hotel (public house) at the famous beauty spot of Belstone close to the northern border of Dartmoor - was the start of proceedings yesterday, Saturday, 13 December. Being a moorland meet the hunt may move off in any direction so footsabs took up position on the summit of nearby Belstone Tor, 180m/600ft above the meet. With the aid of binoculars and our drone they were able to spot and plot the progress of the hunt which saved other sabs a lot of time- and energy-consuming footslogging. The hunt made their way south 5 km/3 miles along the Taw Marsh valley to the same area as last week around Little Hound Tor and on to Hound Tor, Steeperton Tor, Okement Hill and Hangingstone Hill. Armed with this information we drove around to the west of East Okement Farm from where footsabs made their way south along the track to close in on the hunt who were scattered over a wide area and appeared to be waiting for something to happen. Not far from members of the mounted field on the steep western slope of the aptly named Steeperton Gorge sabs were horrified to observe on the opposite hillside just below the huntsman and quad bike a released and confused fox surrounded and “chopped” by hounds. In that wretched situation the poor creature had no chance. For legal reasons we are not releasing any further information at this stage.
