One of the aircraft selected for inclusion in the Final Phase ia a McDonnel Douglas F/A-18A Hornet (bureau number 161970). This jet entered service in 1984 with VFA-131 and flew with a number of USN and USMC squadrons, including VMFA-251, VMFA-115, VMFA-333, and finally VMFA-321 in 2004. This aircraft was stationed at Andrews AFB, MD on 11 Sep 2001, and was one of the first USMC aircraft to respond to the terrorist attacks. This artifact will be displayed in a "knife-edge" flight attitude, with one wing near the deck, the other near the ceiling, and the nose near a prominent overlook. This venerable bird is being restored, after which the new building will literally have to be built around her. Semper Fly
