One of the answers to the many problems in the Illinois Department of Corrections lies vacant in Alexander County. A great wrong was committed against the citizens of southern Illinois and front line employees all across the state of Illinois. I have yet to hear one candidate for governor who has the courage to make this part of their political platform. Without this safety valve, inmates continue to ride the circuit. Violence is on the increase and the voices of front line workers and experts have been ignored. There has been an uptick in violence. These are not "Isolated Incidents." Instead they have almost too numerous to count. The citizens of southern Illinois are not buying what the governor is selling. We are too smart for that!
