One of the assignments in Teacher Training was to write an answer to Whats it all about? This wasnt what I originally wrote, but its the answer Im sticking with. -- “What’s It All About?” The answer changes with the color of the sky, as storm clouds interrupt the sunlights influence on us, to bless us with their precious rain and rhythmic thunder. It changes as the days appear to move us, steadily, along a path that slowly shows itself with each new step we freely take, increasingly with less anxiety, and always with compassion. It comes to us in memories of summer smells of carnivals, of backyard barbecues, of rest stops on road trips, when our laughter freely flowed from us, and peace was neither myth nor far away at all, but felt, and felt immensely. It comes to some of us in altered states of mind, while surfing waves of consciousness between dimensions, to some in silent sober contemplation, hidden in plain sight among the ones of us still sleeping standing up. Its difficult to comprehend the nature of the Universe, while looking up through light-polluted skies, at faint reminders of the brilliant spectacle of nighttime, and yet, it is a blessing, nonetheless, to have the freedom to look up, to stand up straight, breathe deep, and simply be, to not be bound by poverty, or hunger, tyranny, disease, despair, as others of us are. Our breath is our reminder of how fortunate we are. With each and every one we take, we cannot take for granted life, with all its joys and sorrows. 19 May 2014 JM
