One of the banes of leadership in general is that most leaders are trapped in the cocoons of personal aides and advisers, who themselves should be the communication link with the people, but whose selfish ambitions have made them the exact opposite, thereby isolating the leader from the people. It is pertinent that leadership develops a strategy that enables it hear what the people are saying and encourages them to communicate their concerns. In doing this, the leader must be ready to accept criticism in good faith, seeing it as positive rather than negative. This is why listening is an act of courage. It was Winston Churchill who said, “Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” As a leader you must find the wisdom to harness the varied voices of the people, and sift chaff from wheat. Nigeria would be a much better place if the leaders did more listening. And it’s not too late to start. blogs.premiumtimesng/?p=166265
