One of the benefits of riding as part of as team is that if a couple of riders drop out you still have people to ride with. Rhys and I have rubbish memories and trying to keep the run itinerary fresh is a mission. After some head scratching and prodding of google maps we stole an idea off Mark and headed to Greenway lane over Shurdington. Walking is generally a necessary evil to get to the top of most tracks but you can leash this puppy halfway up and park in a layby. Up to the top of the track, Lace them boots up and youre ready to ride. The run starts at the top of a moonlit field. The ground was dry and beginnings of a frost were setting in. A long sweeping left hander builds your speed on a compacted gravel track cut through the grass. Looks like an awesome all weather track unaffected by recent rain. More speed onto a straight, up to an awesome right hander. Sit back, brake off and let the noSno do what it does best. Drift on a mountainboard is one those awesome moments, like surviving a miracle jump. Plenty of lovely floaty drift on this corner taking you right to the edge of the track. Out to a straight and down to a gate. Im not pissed about the gate, the run before it is awesome and whats to come is gnar enough make you forget. When I say its gnar, Rhys calls it the ‘barbed wire tunnel’’. It has a barbed wire fence on the right so if it goes wrong thats where you could be leaving some DNA. The ground undulates madly and has loose chunky rocks. Walking up it looks scary. At the bottom theres what you could call a hot corner, it’s 90 degrees. Weirdly though, smashing down it feels not ‘safe’ , but exciting enough to make you forget the dangers. It urges you to go faster every foot you travel. A gentle trickle after the corner to the third component of the track. Tarmac, Carvey with a sweet right hander at the bottom. We all know what tarmacs like. Fast grippy, carvey. A Few little corners, lots of speed and that finishing right hander at the bottom. This track is peng for goofy riders. Just time for a second run with some magically appearing/disappearing horses in the top field ! Definitely glad of parking half way up after that as I was shot :)
